Croatian Town's Toxic Waste Nightmare Sparks National Outcry for Accountability

In a striking display of public anger, over 40,000 residents rallied outside the Croatian parliament to demand action against the illegal dumping of toxic waste in Gospić. The movement, led by local activist Željka Šikić, has gained momentum as citizens refuse to accept a hazardous environment in their hometown.

For years, Gospić has been plagued by illegal fly-tipping, with an estimated 35,000 tonnes of waste, including hazardous materials, abandoned just 50 metres from Šikić’s home.
