Bihar's Cabinet Moves Ahead with Flood Study and New Projects, But at What Cost?
The Bihar Cabinet has approved significant land allocations and funding for various projects, raising questions about transparency and accountability.
The Bihar Cabinet recently approved an MOU between the Water Resources Department (WRD) and the National Institute of Hydrology (NIH), Roorkee, aimed at conducting a Flood Plain Zone Delineation Study. Alongside this, the Cabinet sanctioned 115 acres of land for a new sugar mill and 151.58 acres for additional industrial ventures, alongside ₹12 crore for the upcoming Bihar State Games 2026.
Accountability in Development
While these initiatives may seem beneficial, citizens must ask: What measures are in place to ensure that these investments translate into real benefits for the people? How will the government ensure that the land allocated for industries does not compromise local communities or the environment?
With the approval of an underground road corridor in Patna, the government needs to provide clear answers regarding its long-term impact on traffic and urban planning. As reported by The Hindu, there is a pressing need for transparency in how these projects are managed and who will ultimately be held accountable for their success or failure.
