The stigma surrounding HIV continues to plague society, hindering the rights and dignity of those affected. During the recent State-level 5K run organized by the Andhra Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) in Vijayawada, officials emphasized that outdated misconceptions about HIV are still rampant, exacerbating discrimination.

APSACS chief underscored the urgent need for awareness and education to dismantle these harmful beliefs. As reported by The Hindu, this event aimed not only to promote health but also to foster a more inclusive environment for individuals affected by HIV.

The race witnessed impressive performances, with Salur's M. Naresh and Chirala’s E. Swathi emerging victorious. However, the focus remained on the critical issue of societal attitudes towards HIV, raising vital questions about government accountability in addressing public misconceptions and discrimination.

What measures are being implemented to educate citizens about HIV? How can the government ensure the protection of rights for those living with the virus? These pressing questions must be addressed to create a more just society for all.
