A Call for AI Independence

The president of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde, has issued a stark warning about Europe’s growing reliance on artificial intelligence (AI) technology from the US and China. Lagarde emphasized that without developing its own AI capabilities and building domestic data centers, Europe risks being at the mercy of foreign powers in critical negotiations.

Lagarde stated that Europe must create AI models that are sufficiently advanced to handle most tasks independently. "If Europe invests in its own AI tech, the threat of being cut off loses its force," she remarked, highlighting the urgent need for the continent to take proactive measures to ensure its technological sovereignty.

As reported by The Guardian, the call for action comes amid rising concerns that Europe's dependency on external AI resources could lead to unprecedented leverage by trade partners, jeopardizing the region’s economic stability and security.
