The Heat Is On

This summer, soaring temperatures across the U.S. and Europe have dominated headlines, revealing a troubling truth: survival in extreme heat increasingly hinges on access to air conditioning. With schools closing, wildfires raging, and emergency rooms flooded with heat-related illnesses, public officials are echoing a familiar refrain: stay indoors, hydrate, and, if you can, turn on the A/C.

Yet, not everyone has this option. The growing climate divide is evident as those with the means to cool their homes are set apart from those suffering in sweltering conditions. This disparity raises critical questions: why are we allowing such inequalities to persist? What steps are being taken to ensure that all citizens, regardless of income, can access life-saving resources?

As reported by The Guardian, the consequences of inaction are dire. The next great divide will not just be about climate resilience but about basic human survival. It's time for our leaders to address these glaring inequities and ensure that everyone has the means to cope with extreme weather events.
